History Postgraduate Research

Research degrees in History

The Open University’s PhD Programme in History enables you to undertake innovative and exciting research which makes an original contribution to the field of history.

As a postgraduate research student, you will work with two co-supervisors, allowing you to benefit from the expertise and feedback of two academics. You will be joining a friendly and dynamic community of researchers and will take advantage of our year-round programme of workshops, seminars, and training.

The History Department currently has over 20 members of staff engaged in original, rigorous and significant research. These colleagues are ideally placed to supervise postgraduate research students on a wide range of subjects, stretching from the 16th century to the end of the 20th century, and encompassing many different types of history.

Application deadline (for both funded and self-funded PhD students): 8 January 2020

Start date: 1 October 2020
