New OU/BBC Series: ICONS

OU/BBC Icons

A new OU/BBC series, ICONS, in which viewers can vote for their favourite 20th-century figure. The last show is on Tuesday 5th February on BBC2 at 9pm.

ICONS is an eight-part series exploring the achievements and legacies of some of the greatest figures of the 20th Century across different fields of human endeavour; Leaders, Explorers, Scientists, Entertainers, Sports Stars, Artists & Writers, and Activists.

Episode 1:  Leaders (08.01.19 @ 9pm)

In this episode, Sir Trevor McDonald will examine the lives of Winston Churchill, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Margaret Thatcher and Nelson Mandela.

Episode 2: Explorers (09.01.19 @9pm)

In this episode, Dermot O'Leary will examine the lives of Ernest Shackleton, Gertrude Bell, Neil Armstrong and Jane Goodall.

Episode 3:  Scientists (14.01.19 @ 9pm)

In this episode, Chris Packham assesses the lives of Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, Alan Turing and Tu You You.

Episode 4: Entertainers (15.01.19 @9pm)

In this episode, Kathleen Turner looks at Charlie Chaplin, Billie Holiday, Marilyn Monroe and David Bowie.

Episode 5: Activists (21.01.19 @9pm)

In this episode, Sanjeev Bhaskar examines the lives of Emmeline Pankhurst, Mahatma Gandhi, Helen Keller and Martin Luther King Jr.

Episode 6: Sports (22.01.19 @9pm)

In this episode, Clare Balding assesses the legacies of Pelé, Muhammad Ali, Billie Jean King and Tanni Grey Thompson.

Episode 7: Artists & Writers (29.01.19 @9pm)

In this episode, Lily Cole looks at Pablo Picasso, Virginia Woolf, Alfred Hitchcock and Andy Warhol.
