Professional biography

Julie is Staff Tutor in the School of Politics, Philosophy, Economics, Development and Geography. She was previously a Lecturer in Public Management in the Faculty of Business and Law. She has also worked at Essex, Leeds and Hertfordshire universities, as well as for the National Trust and other heritage organisations. She has recently written three 'badged open courses' for OpenLearn on the voluntary sector. She is currently on the DB125 You and Your Money module team, and is Cluster and Task Manager for DD209 Running the Economy, T878 Capacities for Managing Development and TU872 Institutional Development.

Julie's research interests are in heritage, with a particular focus on volunteering and visitor learning. She is an active volunteer herself in heritage.


Research interests

Heritage organisations and their management; visitor learning and engagement in heritage; volunteering; voluntary sector management; British film history.

Teaching interests

Julie has contributed to numerous modules in public policy, management, health and social care, and the voluntary sector.
