Professional biography

Andrew holds a BA in Political Science from Gettysburg College, a MA in Science, Technology and Public Policy from The George Washington University, and a PhD in Regional Planning from The London School of Economics. Andrew formally worked at The National Science Foundation and The National Academy of Engineering in the US. He joined DPP in October 2013, working on The Leverhulme Trust funded project ‘Unpacking the role of industry associations in diffusion and governance of health innovations in developing countries'.

Research interests

Andrew has carried out research on the role of collaboration and corporate partnering in the funding and capacity building of technology oriented entrepreneurial firms and the implications of this collaboration (opportunities and limitations) for regional development policy. More recently, Andrew has engaged in research that looks at the intermediary role of public actors in the promotion of health innovation in emerging countries. His research interests involve the evolution of regional and sector-based innovation systems, with an emphasis on system functions, policy subsystems and related political processes.
