BSc Psychology, University of Kent, 1983

PhD Social Psychology, LSE, 1987

I was a member of the Psychology Department at the University of East London (1987-1988) and then Birkbeck College, University of London (1988-1998).

My research interests focused on social psychological aspects of group processes, social identities and collective action, in particular exploring participation in political groups and trade unions. I joined the OU in 1998 as an Associate Lecturer on the third level Social Psychology module. In 2001 I became a full-time member of staff with a role as Staff Tutor in the South East of England. In 2014 I took up the role of Director of the Psychology & Counselling Student Support Team (SST).

 

Teaching interests

 

I have been a member of several different module teams, including at third level, Social Psychology (D317, DD307) and project module (DE300), second level counselling module (D240) and postgraduate modules (D845, D821). I have tutored at third level and on our introductory level one Psychology modules (DSE141, DE100). In my role as SST Director, I liaise with colleagues across the university to improve our support for Psychology and Counselling students.

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE).
