Profile summary

Professional biography

I originally came to The Open University as an Associate Lecture on a D831: Environmental valuation and policy. Prior to this I had completed my degree and ESRC/Environment Agency funded PhD in Environmental Valuation at Newcastle University. Aside from tutoring at The Open University I worked for the Countryside Commission (later to become Natural England) working on a range of projects – from Countryside Stewardship to the CROW Act to rural housing and health. I moved on to work for Government Office in the North West and then for New Deal for Communities. During this time I also worked for The Open University in a range of tutoring and consultancy roles. In 2015 I began working full time for The Open University in the North West regional office in Manchester, first as a Social Sciences Senior Faculty Manager and then as a Central Staff Tutor and Lecturer in Geography.

I continue my role as an Associate Lecturer since 2001, on a variety of undergraduate and post-graduate modules.

Teaching interests

I am currently Co-chair of the Level 1 undergraduate module DD102: Introducing the Social Sciences.

I am also on the module team for DST206: Environment: sharing a dynamic planet.  I was involved during production and now sit on the module presentation team. I’m the cluster manager for this module, so oversee the tutors on who deliver this module.

Currently I am working on two production modules DD213: Environment and Society and forthcoming remake of DU311: Earth in crisis: environmental policy in an international context.
