Oral History Project

Dates
Thursday, March 1, 2018 - 00:00 to Saturday, June 30, 2018 - 00:00

The oral history project began to document women farmers’ cultural memories in relation to changes in village life, agricultural practices, and local weather patterns.

This project will document the life stories of a group of women farmers in Kanakapura, Karnataka. It will focus on their ‘cultural memories’ (i.e. stories, rituals, songs, performances, feelings) in relation to farming, biodiversity, and the local landscape, and their hopes and visions for the future. From these interviews, the project will produce 6 edited audio recordings and 4 short films with the aim of generating new forms of permanent historical documents. The research will be carried out by Tsveti Bandakova, Sandip Hazareesingh, and Sara Penrhyn Jones.
