Professional biography

I studied for my undergraduate degree in English at Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, before going on to do my MA at the University of York and my PhD at the University of Exeter. I've previously taught on modules at the Universities of Exeter, Bristol, Manchester and Lancaster.

Research interests

I'm currently working on turning my doctoral project into a monograph, Hairwork in Victorian Literature and Culture: Matter, Form, and Craft. This monograph will be the first book-length study of Victorian hairwork—the crafting of decorative objects from human hair—and its presence in British literature of the period, with chapters that focus on works by Charlotte and Emily Brontë, Wilkie Collins, and Margaret Oliphant.

My broader interests are in nineteenth-century literature, material culture, textiles and handicrafts, and object-led and embodied methodologies.

I'm a digital research assistant for a project on Comic Women's Poetry of the Ninteenth-Century, led by Dr Jasmine Jagger.
