Professional biography

I won the Bristol Short Story Prize with her story ‘My Girl’, which was also broadcast on BBC Radio 4. My short stories have been included in collections such as Aesthetica Creative Writing Anthology 2019A Short Affair (Simon & Schuster, 2018), and Bath Short Story Prize Anthology 2014. I have an MA in 19th Century Literature from Kings College, London. I followed this love of plot to work in feature film production before pursuing writing full time. I have an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia (UEA) and completed my PhD at the Open University. In 2018, I achieved Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. My debut novel, The Longest Fight, published by Myriad, was shortlisted for the Cross Sports Book Awards, and listed in The Independent’s Paperbacks of the Year 2015. My second novel, Inside the Beautiful Inside, was published in 2020; a collection of short stories, Human Terrain, was published in 2021 and longlisted for the Edge Hill Prize 2022.

Teaching interests

I teach Creative Writing at undergraduate and postgraduate level with the Open University. I have also been a visiting lecturer at City University: Novel Writing Studio; Short Story Writing. In 2018 I was a visiting lecturer at the University of East London, teaching Myth and the Short Story. In addition, I have taught various open access events (using museum exhibits) at Imperial War Museum, Docklands Museum, British Museum, and Croydon Clock Tower.
