Broadcast of Winning Plays (International Radio Playwriting Competition 2016)

BBC World Service International Playwriting Competition

The Day Dad Stole a Bus by Brazilian writer Pericles Silveira will be broadcast on Saturday 21st January 2017. The first of the two winning plays in the 25th BBC World Service International Playwriting Competition, it won the English as a second language category of the competition. It stars Stephen Tompkinson, Wunmi Mosaku and Matthew Marsh, with original music by Raiomond Mirza. It will be broadcast at 20.06 (Local time) on BBC World Service, and repeated on Sunday 22nd January at 12.05. The second winning play, Playing with Fire by Canadian writer Joanne Gutknecht, will be broadcast on Saturday 18th February. Playing with Fire won first prize in the English as a First Language category.

The playwriting competition welcomed scripts from anyone living outside the UK, whether established or new, and encouraged writers to use the immense power and accessibility of the medium of radio drama.
