Please find the information relating to a new OU/BBC series, The Five Billion Pound Super Sewer, which started on Tuesday 17th July, at 9pm, on BBC2. There are 3 in the series. The second is being shown on 24th July at 9.00pm on BBC2 and then on iPlayer. The final episode will be on 31st July at 9.00pm.

The academic consultants on this series are Dr Nick Bingham and Dr George Revill (both from Geography), along with Dr Bob Everett from STEM.

London’s Victorian sewer network is at bursting point and its tunnels are regularly pushed past their limit. A huge engineering project is underway to massively expand the capital’s capacity to deal with its own waste. Twenty miles long and seven metres wide, the enormous tunnel will be created directly beneath the River Thames by an army of 4,000 workers, and it will capture this city’s waste before it hits the river.
