We warmly invite you to attend this year’s GOTH online drama festival. The event will feature a discussion and viewing of Frankenstein, Nick Dear’s stage adaptation of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. The play premiered at the Royal National Theatre in February 2011, in a production directed by Danny Boyle, with a cast led by Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller (alternating the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature).

Frankenstein’s playwright, Nick Dear, will join GOTH members at this event for a Q&A session.

Prior to 9 November 2023, we encourage all participants to watch a screening of the Royal National Theatre’s 2011 production via the Drama Online Library DOI: 10.5040/9781350935020). Access to the website is granted with your OU institution credentials. You can find the production by searching ‘Frankenstein’ and filtering the content type by ‘video’. The production we will watch features Jonny Lee Miller as ‘Victor Frankenstein’ and Benedict Cumberbatch as ‘The Creature’.

The production has a run-time of 1 hour 55 minutes. For further information about the performance, you’re welcome to watch the associated videos found on the production page. These include a trailer (34 seconds) and two character study videos on ‘The Creature’ and ‘Frankenstein’ (3 minutes 2 seconds and 3 minutes 13 seconds, respectively).

We hope you can join us!
