What campus Universities can learn from online/distance ones

Georgina Blakeley

The Political Studies Association (PSA) will be holding the third online event in their Teaching and Learning Network Webinar Series on 27 May, 3-4pm 'Teaching Politics Online: Pedagogy, Support, Community'. The webinar will be run by Georgina Blakeley, former Director of Teaching and Deputy Head of School in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at The Open University. She is now Director of Teaching, Learning and Student Experience in the School of Human and Health Sciences at the University of Huddersfield.

"The question of what, if anything, campus universities can learn from universities whose main business is distance-learning was at the forefront of my mind as I recently returned to a position at the University of Huddersfield following over 13 years at The Open University where I worked on entry-level interdisciplinary social science modules. Little did I know just how invaluable this self-reflection would become as Huddersfield, like many other institutions, rushed to move teaching online. This session will cover what can be done to just get by when having to move teaching online in a hurry while also covering some of the more longer-term lessons that can be learned from the experience of distance-learning for those teaching and supporting students starting to study the social sciences when time is less of an issue."
