Global Challenges: Hope and Local Action arts competition

The climate crisis is exacerbating all major challenges, such as environmental migration and racial justice, food security and health, sustainable development, and conservation. We want to encourage all our students to engage creatively and more deeply with our most pressing global challenges.

That’s why we’re inviting you to put your creativity to the test and take part in our ‘Global Challenges: Hope and Local Action’ competition, which aims to raise awareness, empower local efforts, and creatively tackle these challenges.

To enter, you can submit photographs, paintings, videos, digital art, short poems or prose, collages, music, and any other novel creative art forms.

How to get involved

To enter:

• Please submit your entry as one electronic file attachment to digital-earth@open.ac.uk
• Entries will be assessed by an OU panel of academics, artists, and experts
• Please include your full name, OU student number, and contact details

Deadline for all entries is Monday 6 June 5pm (BST)

Prizes will be announced on Wednesday 15 June and include:

• 1^st prize worth £200
• 2^nd and 3^rd prizes worth £150 each

Shortlisted entries will be featured in an exclusive exhibition hosted by the Arts-based Methodologies for Global Challenges Project in collaboration with the Teaching Lab, Global Challenges and Social Justice Research Centre.

Participants will retain copyright and be credited for their work in all future exhibitions and publications.

This competition is organised by the Teaching Lab for the Global Challenges and Social Justice Research Centre at The Open University, in collaboration with the Arts-based Methodologies 2022 Conference, a FASSTEST funded scholarship project.
