Globally, only 23% of refugees engage in secondary education, and only 6% are enrolled in higher education (UNHCR, 2022). Set within global efforts for widening access for refugee students to higher education in host countries, host country higher education systems continue to grapple with determining and offering appropriate support for refugee learners to facilitate their access and transition to and through higher education. Refugee learners present various support needs that host country higher education systems are yet to develop and provide. Without a typology that guides host - country higher education systems, the support provided remains generic and unresponsive to refugee learners’ support needs for access and transition to and through higher education. Earlier, my work, largely focused on the application of democratic pedagogies to facilitate education access and participation in post-conflict regions in Sub-Saharan Africa. Endeared by the potential of technologies to empower and leverage access, and participation, my work is now increasingly focusing on possibilities that digital education can offer to leverage multi-tiered systems of support and education.
