Philosophy and the New Space Race – A public lecture

Dates
Thursday, March 26, 2026 - 18:30 to 19:45
Location
Online

In this free online public talk, Professor Derek Matravers from The Open University will explore some puzzles that follow from the thought that space is not owned by anyone. What does this mean? Is space there for anyone who wants to take it, or should nobody be allowed to take it? Does it mean that whatever riches can be found in space belong to all of us? What could that mean in practice? There are already winners and losers in the new space race. Does this matter and what can we do about it?

This lecture contributes to the annual British Philosophy Fortnight.
