Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February is having massive repercussions for regional and international security. This roundtable with POLIS academics is designed to allow students to engage with OU research and ask questions on what is happening and what it means for the future of international politics.

Professor Simon Usherwood is an expert on EU politics and can speak to the EU’s response, Dr Precious Chatterje-Doody researches Russian politics and disinformation and will address the information war, Dr Edward Wastnidge analyses Middle East politics and will consider the politics of engaging with Saudi Arabia to increase oil production as well as the UAE’s UN voting.

Meanwhile, Professor Jamie Gaskarth is on hand to talk about the military and diplomatic strategies in play.

Key questions:

  • Why did Russia invade?
  • What has surprised everyone about the conflict and the international response?
  • How has the war played out?
  • What happens next?
  • How does this end?
