This breakfast meetup, will outline lessons the UK can learn from India’s successes in bridging the IT skills gap.
This event is organised by GSM-IT (Gender, skilled migration and IT: a comparative study of India and the UK Research Project funded by Economic and Social Science Research Council (ESRC) (UK))
Increasing women’s participation in the UK IT industry is seen as one way to reduce UK’s IT skills gap. There have been many attempts to improve women’s participation, but they have had limited and variable success, leaving this as a key area of concern for educators, business and professional bodies, and policy-makers. India’s comparatively high rates of entry and retention to the sector, and in the STEM-subject professions more generally, are a globally-significant exception.
This event brings new insights from a research from the Open University on the Indian IT sector that could help address the skills gap in the UK. A free networking breakfast will be held together with the event so please join us for an interactive discussion.
