Refugee Week is a festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
In this session, Jen Ang from JustRight Scotland will examine our current approach to eligibility and funding for students in further and higher education, assessing how this creates barriers for forced migrants living in the UK to access their right to education.
The session will discuss the recent landmark litigation taken by JustRight Scotland resulting in a court ruling that widened access to education for thousands of migrant young people in Scotland. It will also explore how actions that students, staff, and university administrators can take to reduce barriers to education for forced migrant students and widen access for all people who choose to make the UK their home.
Jen Ang is a founding co-Director of JustRight Scotland, a human rights charity based in Scotland which uses the law to defend and extend people’s rights.
Jen is also an experienced Associate Lecturer in Law employed by The Open University. She is an enthusiastic advocate of open education and widening access to education for all.
