An Introduction to the Arctic – A British Museum collaboration

Join the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) for a free event on November 19th in collaboration with the British Museum; the Scott Polar Research Institute, Cambridge; and the Natural Environment Research Council Arctic Office. Part of the public programme for the British Museum’s fascinating ‘Arctic Culture and Climate’ exhibition, The Open University is hosting a one-off live lecture presented via Zoom that will introduce the diverse landscapes and complex histories of the Arctic Peoples and their region.

Chaired by polar oceanographer, Professor Mark Brandon, academic advisor on the BBC’s ‘Frozen Planet’, the event brings together a line-up of speakers that includes the OU’s environmental geographer Professor Shonil Bhagwat; Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Aberdeen, Dr Tatiana Argounova-Low; Cultural Anthropologist Dr Carol Brown-Leonardi; and British Museum project curator for the Arctic exhibition, Dr Peter Loovers.

Free to attend, although donations to the British Museum are welcomed, places can be booked via this link.
