The Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership (GUDTP) for October 2022 is open now.
The deadline for OU applications is 5pm on Tuesday, 11 January 2022.
The Grand Union DTP is based around ‘pathways’ to which prospective students apply. The pathway most relevant to us is Psychology, but there are also other pathways in FASS, WELS and FBL to which prospective students can apply. Cross-pathway and interdisciplinary supervision is possible across all pathways, so do get in touch to discuss supervision options.
Psychology at The Open University represents a progressive approach to psychological research, theory and practice that is tightly connected with other social sciences and humanities disciplines. The pathway champions creative, critical and credible psychological research that makes a difference to real social issues, that informs practice, and that inspires a positive vision for living together fairly, equitably and imaginatively.
The DTP has a two-stage application process. Prospective students apply to the OU in the first instance. Pathway leads shortlist and interview applicants, and nominate 3 successful applicants to the Grand Union. A Grand Union selection panel (external to the School) then assesses and ranks all submitted applications and distributes available studentships to the highest ranked applicants.
For more information on available pathways and how to apply, please visit Grand Union DTP website.
Successful applicants will be affiliated with The Open Psychology Research Centre (OPRC), the research centre of the School of Psychology & Counselling at The Open University. The OPRC provides additional research support to enhance the reach of PhD student research in the school.
Applicants should foresee joining one or more of the school’s three thematic research streams that are based in the OPRC, depending on your topic and supervisory team: Culture and Social Psychology (CuSP), Psychology of Health and Wellbeing Research (PHeW), Forensic Cognition Research Group (FCRG).
Applications should be sent to fass-psych-pg-admissions@open.ac.uk by 17:00 on Tuesday 11th January 2022. Interviews will take place in early February 2022.
If you have any questions about the relevance of your previous academic or work experience, the suitability of your proposed project, or pathway routes, please contact DTP Psychology Pathway lead Simon Clarke: simon.clarke@open.ac.uk.
