SEPAD Project Receives Further Funding from Carnegie Corporation

SEPAD is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $400,000 from Carnegie Corporation for a further two years of work, building on the successful first phase of Corporation-funded research. The project, led by Simon Mabon (Lancaster University) and Edward Wastnidge (Open University), explores the fragmentation of state-society relations in the Middle East and the ways in which regional powers have sought to increase their influence through the cultivation of relationships that transcend state borders.

During the first two years, SEPAD focussed on events in Bahrain, Iraq and Lebanon, producing a range of books (including Mabon's open access monograph and a series), articles, reports, podcasts, interventions, opinion pieces and more.

The second phase of SEPAD applies lessons from the aforementioned case studies to Syria, Yemen and Kuwait, while also reflecting on the ways in which these ideas operate beyond the Middle East, focussing on Bosnia Herzegovina, India, and Northern Ireland. Corporation funds will support workshops, conferences, podcasts, and writing retreats to expand  SEPAD's international collaborations and advance the quality of scholarship on these consequential trends.
