Speaker biography:

Janine Dahinden is Professor of Transnational Studies, director of the MAPS (Maison d’analyse des processus sociaux) and project leader in the NCCR-on the move, University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. She is interested in understanding processes of mobility, transnationalisation and boundary making, and their concomitant production of inequalities linked to ethnicity, race, class, or gender. Her research focusing on processes of (de)migranticization, racialization and ‘othering’ has been widely published, among others, in Ethnic and Racial Studies, Mobilities, Comparative Migration Studies or Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies. She is President of the Swiss Association for Gender Studies and the co-director of the Standing Committee of “Reflexivities in migration studies” of IMISCOE, the largest interdisciplinary network of European Scholars in the field of migration. She is also engaged in ‘public’ research, and has been commissioned by state authorities in Switzerland, for instance to study dynamics of so called ‘forced marriage’. She has also been organizing expositions, recently, one on naturalization in Switzerland (book published in 2022 Naturalisations. Immersion dans La fabrique des Suisse.sse.S.). Between December 2022 and January 2023 she will be visiting professor at OU. Read more about Professor Janine Dahinden
