Research with us

We welcome enquiries about potential MPhil/PhD projects concerning aspects of music and/or sound that align with our research interests.

Individuals interested in studying for a research degree can receive supervision from one or more members of the group. Find out more about the current research students studying with us.

The main application period for research degrees is from the autumn to the following spring, for study commencing on 1 October 2024. Students may also make an application to commence study in February.

We normally advise potential applicants to submit a draft research proposal along the lines indicated in the Research Degrees prospectus prior to making a formal application. This draft will enable us to assess your topic and approach, provide you with some feedback, and to consider whether we have the specialist staff to form a supervisory team.
