New OU/BBC Programme The Brexit Storm: Laura Kuenssberg’s Inside Story

On Monday 1 April 2019, a new OU/BBC programme, The Brexit Storm: Laura Kuenssberg’s inside story, airs on BBC Two at 9pm. The programme was commissioned by OU Broadcast and Partnerships and supported by FASS Academics Mr Alan Shipman, Dr Peter Wood and Media Fellow Dr Alison Penn, with particular relevance to BA (Hons) Economics, BA (Hons) Politics, Philosophy and Economics, BA (Hons) Combined Social Sciences and BA (Hons) International Studies.

BA (Honours) Religion, Philosophy and Ethics

In this qualification you’ll explore human systems of thought and practice, both ‘secular’ and ‘religious’, in ways which allow you to engage with wide-ranging and often controversial issues affecting different cultures and societies. You’ll investigate a wide range of current questions and themes in these disciplines from both historical and contemporary perspectives. This includes the ethics of war, political justice, multiculturalism, religious nationalisms, the ‘sanctity of life’ and pilgrimage. In engaging with the core disciplines of religious studies and philosophy, you’ll develop critical skills and expertise in a range of key approaches and methodologies.

FASS Academic Awarded Funding for Child Migrant Research

Dr Sarah Crafter, Senior Lecturer in Psychology, has been awarded just under £1 million from the ESRC to undertake a research project on the care of separated child migrants.

Conference: Heritage in War

As part of the Heritage in War project co-run by Prof Derek Matravers in Philosophy of The Open University, this interdisciplinary conference aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from a wide range of fields, such as philosophy, international law, heritage studies, archaeology, and the military, to explore issues connected to the protection of heritage in war and conflict.
