Climate Change Crisis - Kerry Ann Williams

Selected entry of the Global Challenges: Hope and Local Action arts competition.

Kerry Ann: ‘My poem on the climate crisis explores how we can change our way of living to help stop further damage.’

Climate change, the current global crisis,
disrupting weather patterns causing water and food shortages.

Earth’s temperature is rising at fast alarming rates,
an increase in extreme weather, hurricanes, flooding and heatwaves.

Glaciers and ice sheets are melting having devastating affects, causing a rise in ocean levels, threatening coastal areas and eco-systems.

Coral reefs are dying, and oceans are acidifying,
forests are burning, species facing a future that is uncertain.

Food and water insecurity and economic disruption, terrorism and conflict, a problem currently in production.

We have to do something to help our own blue planet, let’s work together,
governments, academia, businesses and society,
to reduce our carbon footprint by supporting a healthy diet, reducing your meat intake,
take a walk instead of the car, let’s raise awareness, empower local efforts and show how strong we are!

Renewable energy, electric cars, reducing emissions is the way to start.

Allowing species to thrive, the air to be clean, save our forests, oceans and habitats in a world that can again be green.

New technologies and nature-based solutions can help us carry on, in a world that needs our help with carbon reduction.

Our big blue beautiful planet can be green once again, we can learn to live in harmony, all together until the end
