Andrew Sproul

Professional

I started my PhD studies with The Open University in October 2021 having previously graduated BA(Hons) Criminology from Abertay University in 2016 and with a Masters in Public and Urban Policy from the University of Glasgow in 2017. Since then, I have been involved in various roles within social housing in Scotland along side my studies.

Research Interest

I am currently interested in the implementation of the Housing First programme in Europe with a specific focus on Scotland and Finland through the lens of international policy comparisons. This is a qualitative study that aims to examine the front line implementation of the Housing First programme in each country to gain a fuller understanding of the ways in which housing for homeless people interacts with wider neoliberal policies in housing and welfare provision.

This is relevant to current developments within housing, homelessness policy and welfare provision with a policy environment pushing a narrative of responsibilisation whereby the onus is placed on the citizen to navigate increasingly complex and retreating social services.
