Kelly.Forbes-Hallam
I commenced my PhD with The Open University in October 2024. Prior to this I obtained a BA (Hons) in Social Science with Politics from The Open University and a MA in Sociology from Staffordshire University. My PhD project focuses on the impact of technology facilitated coercive control in the pre-smart device age.
My research focuses on technology facilitated coercive control (TFCC) from a historical perspective, and I am interested in exploring the link in the field of TFCC between contemporary smart devices and the traditional devices that they seek to replace. This includes exploring the historical repurposing of technologies to facilitate coercive control within intimate relationships. Underpinning the research interests is my desire to tell the stories of women who may now hold different understanding of their past experiences.
I joined The Open University as an Associate Lecturer in 2019 and teach on several undergraduate modules in criminology and sociology. I have a PgCert in Online and Distance Education and Fellowship of the HEA.
