I began working in early childhood education and care in 2009. Throughout my time in nurseries and preschools, I fulfilled many roles including special educational needs coordinator, designated person for equalities, and designated person for child protection and safeguarding.
I completed an undergraduate degree in childhood and youth studies with the Open University in 2017 and I went on to complete an MA in early childhood education at Anglia Ruskin University in 2018. I am now a PhD student researching the gender development of young children who attend early childhood education and care settings in England.
My research interests concern how gender and sex norms inform young children’s interaction within early childhood education and care settings. I am also interested in researching how those early interactions contribute to young children’s emerging understanding of gender.
Doctoral research project: How do gender and sex norms inform the interactions of children in nursery as they interact with their peers and the early years practitioners who are looking after them?
