History Lecturer publishes biography of Queen Charlotte

A new biography of Queen Charlotte, written by History Lecturer Dr Natalee Garrett, has been published by Routledge.

Queen Charlotte: Family, Duty, Scandal is the first scholarly biography of Queen Charlotte to be published in over fifty years; in charting the events of Queen Charlotte’s life, it seeks to explore her underappreciated contributions to the British monarchy and to British society from 1761 to 1818. The book incorporates new sources and perspectives from both Britain and Germany, including material from the Royal Archives at Windsor Castle, and a range of material culture and visual culture. Queen Charlotte: Family, Duty, Scandal is essential reading for anyone interested in eighteenth-century Britain, and in studies of queenship, gender, and popular culture in early modern Europe.

Research for the book was part-funded by OpenARC.
