Admirers of the novelist Xiaolu Guo will be excited to learn that her latest work, Call Me Ishmaelle, responds to Herman Melville’s great American novel, Moby Dick.  Guo takes inspiration from the true stories of nineteenth-century women who went to sea disguised as men, especially the incredible journeys made by Ann Jane Thornton, Mary Lacy, and Rebecca Ann Johnson. Professor of English and Comparative Literature Fiona Doloughan will be in conversation with Guo to launch the book on March 18 at 6.30 pm at Brixton Library in London. Show up to find out more.
