Cultures of Brass Research Project

The Cultures of Brass website was instigated to provide open access to materials and information about a series of research projects undertaken at The Open University centred on brass musical instruments: their cultural history and other topics that have affected their place in the musical world. Each of these projects had a specific focus but taken together they embraced a wide chronology and an equally wide range of musical styles.

The outcomes of those projects have now been published as books, as chapters in books, articles in academic journals and in other media. The purpose of the present site is to summarise some of the various topics that have been investigated and to provide some links to material related to the projects.
