An exciting programme of events organised by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) kick-starts next month, featuring external speakers from BBC Cumbria and UK Parliament.
Academics from Politics and International Studies, part of the School of Social Sciences & Global Studies, have collaborated with UK Parliament to bring students, staff, and the public a series of free online events focusing on a range of topics including parliament, current affairs, and the media.
Working with speakers from the UK Parliament Chamber and Engagement team, the Open Politics seminar series builds on the success of The Open University’s involvement with UK Parliament Week, which took place in November 2021.
The series provides opportunities to explore and develop understanding of contemporary issues at local, national and international levels, with five interactive sessions starting on Tuesday 1 February and running until Tuesday 24 May.
Two of the events, taking place in February and March, are open to the general public, with three separate events organised for OU students, featuring Politics and International Studies lecturers discussing specialist research topics.
The public events are interactive sessions led by members of the UK Parliament’s Education and Engagement team, which invite participants to put into practice some of the theory behind getting involved in the democratic process.
The events are free to attend and take place online via Microsoft Teams. Registration is now open for the public events, which take place on Tuesday 22 February and Tuesday 22 March. Sign up now on Eventbrite:
