OU Politics academic’s video essay included in German art exhibition

Art and Life in Times of War poster in German

A video essay co-produced by OU Politics academic Dr Precious Chatterje-Doody and Dr Darya Tsymbalyuk has been screened as part of a new exhibition at Württembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart.  The exhibition, “Art and Life in Times of War” brings together the works, projects, and networks of Ukrainian artists that address war, displacement, and military conflict in Ukraine since 2014. In their video essay, Chatterje-Doody and Tsymbalyuk foreground refugees’ own words about their displacement from Donbas, and the importance of the natural environment in their migration stories. It sets their observations to visual images of the plantlife and fossil record with which people interact on a daily basis, and a soundtrack reflecting on the importance of a holistic understanding of war and its impacts on those displaced by it.
